There have been some pretty big changes in this wine through the last two releases. If you’ve ever caught me in the tasting room, you’ve surely heard me talk a big game of our “Sunshot Vineyard”. Our first small crop from that site debuts here and is complimented by the addition of viognier skins. This co-fermentation technique originates from the Rhone Valley and is done to introduce a rich mid palate through white grape skin tannin and colour intensity through the natural enzymatic content of viognier! Strang eh? Whatever the magic may be, one thing is very clear to us – we like the result.

On the palate, the wine is plush, rich in dark fruits and the tannin pretty. The nose has a dusty savoury tone wrapped in blueberries. We’ve made a big splash with this wine and its quickly becoming a go-to BC Syrah. Aged in 80% French and 20% American oak barrels for 16 months, this wine is drinking really well now but is crafted with the structure to age for a decade. We really do encourage you to try one as soon as possible though.

Tasting Notes
This Syrah is grown on decaying Stemwinder soils, essentially stone, gravel, and sand that is windblown, much like the Northern Rhone. The opening is a dusty, peppery affair with an underlying mix of blueberries, sagebrush, and spice. So streamlined and structured, it is simply a baby at this stage. It needs five years to start to be open and ten to be ready. Lamb is the match, and it is a great one. "Co-fermented with 5% viognier, there's a telling floral lift here off the top, with violets and ripe peach aromatics leading over typical darker fruit, blueberry and black cherry, fresh and in jam form. The palate is juicy, balanced between succulent acids and fine, grainy-dusty tannins, with a decent amount of grip. Length and depth, and complexity, are also solid. I'd cellar another 1-2 years for a more evolved and complex expression and polished texture. Tasted September 2022." -John Szabo, MS

Vineyard Notes
Corcelettes Estate Vineyard, Upper Bench, Keremeos “Stemwinder”- alluvial deposit & “Similkameen” gravelly sandy loam. Gnarly and extremely coarse soils eroded from steep mountain walls. Situated on the higher, south facing regions of the valley providing an extended growing season. Dry, windswept and extreme daytime heats. Exposed rock faces ‘sink’ and radiate heat well into the night. Vineyard rows are North/South orientation, VSP trellis system.
