The entire process of planting, growing, harvesting and them to drinking Cab Franc brings us pleasure. Everything with this varietal always seems to line up just right. The vines love growing here in our gnarly stony soils and translating that through the cellar seems rather simple, as it happens so naturally. When things are so well suited for each other, the result is our Cab Franc program. Ripe, yet boasting a chewy structure. Those cigar box characters, that more rustic savoury tone, those stewed dark fruits, black raspberries all describe this wine. A little aging will develop floral and licorice tones but do try both! Open one early to explore that more vibrant and rowdy side. Age and allow more complex or more subdued fruit to yield to licorice and chocolate characters.

Tasting Notes
"This Similkameen version of Cabernet Franc is always big, but the Corcelettes team seems to pull back slightly to let some elegance into the picture. The texture is an improvement over last year, although by the time you get to the back end, the tannins are dense and drying at this early stage. This pre-release look would suggest there is no need to sell this anytime soon. This franc is akin to the Napa California style pitching spice, savoury dried herbs, green olives, espresso and black raspberry. A giant that will need some time to settle in. To each their own. If you must drink it, serve it with the big dishes, including lamb, game, truffles, and mushrooms." -Anthony Gismondi, Gismondi On Wine

Vineyard Notes
All of our 2021’s were literally "kissed" by the sun. A vintage expressing a lot of intensity. Two compounding reasons: First, we reached temperatures in early June of 44 degrees. Although this may not be uncommon as of late in a growing season, June is bloom. Reaching these high temperatures in June can cook our blossoms and ‘shatter’ our clusters. This means aborted flowers, which means reduced cluster sizes. The lower yield then had a strong launch for the remainder of the season. This allowed, on average, 2.9 Tons/acre on all our sites. Forget about the reduced crop for a second as this has everything to do with the quality of these wines. All our 2021 reds are gold medal status, 91+ points if you will. The concentration and complexity of these wines are truly jaw dropping.
Winemaker Notes
Drawing attention to the intensity of 2021, this wine is robust. Franc seems to always find a way to navigate the challenges of a vintage. It accepts those challenges and expresses them in wine. Wrapped up in espresso, raspberries, dried herbs and green olives, the tannins are showing their youth. Some of our younger vines contributed to this wine creating an elegant balance between more fruit forward vine age and those complex, more mineral toned old vines. Allow this to settle down a bit and you will not be disappointed.
Food Pairing Notes
Braised elk or bison with wild mushrooms, a grilled ribeye, or try with a deliciously well aged cheese.
