Another exciting release of our micro lot Malbec! You may recall we’ve worked towards growing our plantings of this varietal and Malbec requires our very best real-estate, which we’ve properly assigned. To achieve its zenith, Malbec needs long evening sun and length of season. Only then, can we convert these big, juicy beautiful clusters into this aromatically intense, lively wine. In 2018 we planted an additional small acre of this grape vine, and in 2021, it yielded its first modest crop load. This adds great complexity to the wine as young vines can often be prized for a more fruit forward profile, while our original Malbec planting (planted in 2007), is starting to show more complex flavours. The magic is when both are blended to create the ‘yum’ impact.

Cellar 2-8 years. Enjoy this with lighter proteins or over a charcuterie board or with some sharp cheese.

Tasting Notes
At first, the intense ruby garnet color captures the eye. Aromas of mixed berry pie and cedar fill the nose, structure is delicate with delicious crunchy acid and dusty tannin. The palate is fruit generous with cassis wrestling raspberry for the lead.
Ratings
91 points- Treve Ring, Gismondi On Wine "Wild and powerful, this is lashed and shaped by the savoury, windy Similkameen. Fragrant and resinous desert scrub, cracked peppercorn, dusky violets, perfumed wild blueberry and thorny blackberry is woven throughout the cushioned, medium+ palate, housed with grippy and structural tannins, finishing with a bitter black cherry twist. The Diam10 cork suggests the winery thinks this has solid aging potential, and I agree."- Treve Ring, Gismondi On Wine
Vineyard Notes
All of our 2021’s were literally kissed by the sun. A vintage expressing a lot of intensity. Two compounding reasons: First, we reached temperatures in early June of 44 degrees. Although this may not be uncommon as of late in a growing season, June is bloom. Reaching these high temperatures in June can cook our blossoms and ‘shatter’ our clusters. This means aborted flowers, which means reduced cluster sizes. The lower yield then had a strong launch for the remainder of the season. This allowed, on average, 2.9 Tons/acre on all our sites. Forget about the reduced crop for a second as this has everything to do with the quality of these wines. All our 2021 reds are gold medal status, 91+ points if you will. The concentration and complexity of these wines are truly jaw dropping.
Food Pairing Notes
BBQ ribs or shish-kabobs are a great pairing with this Malbec, however lighter proteins or a nice charcuterie board will do well too!
