Our passion in Petit Verdot is one of personal challenge. The pursuit of the ‘near’ impossible. Sure, this varietal has gorgeous impacts when entertaining blends, but in its purest form, those beneficial characteristics can be its greatest Achilles heel. The slight imbalance of extreme aromatic properties, tannins and acids, can create a bright wine where 10 years of bottling aging is not a suggestion, but a requirement.

However, the PV rooted on our estate vineyard receives the greatest solar radiation, managed to lower crop yields and is harvested very last. This ensures complete ripeness and balance of all PV attributes. Presenting a wine generous in wildflower aromas that introduce cherries, plums and Christmas cake on the palate. This wine is so impactful, its 1% contribution to wines like TALUS are duly noted: an already robust Bordeaux blend. In its purest form, it is certainly something we’re proud of. Do practice patience on this wine. You’ll receive the most from it after 5 years of aging. This is a micro production wine- think steak when you do decide to open it!

Tasting Notes
"Winemaker Charlie Baessler is growing a half acre of Petit Verdot vines over stony ancient Stemwinder soils, doing what few can, namely bottling a solo varietal version you may want to drink. The magic is in the savoury Similkameen desert wildflower nose that spills onto a palate with dried herbs, black plums, Christmas cake, dried black cherries, and a peppery finish. Petit Verdot made its stripes in great years in Bordeaux when needed, but it added something magical to the great vintages of 1945, 1953, 1961, 1982, and many others. The density of this wine is impressive, and the chalky tannins are inviting, suggesting you could drink it if you had to, but it would also cellar easily for more than a decade. Steak, anyone?" -Anthony Gismondi, Gismondi On Wine

Vineyard Notes
All of our 2021’s were literally "kissed" by the sun. A vintage expressing a lot of intensity. Two compounding reasons: First, we reached temperatures in early June of 44 degrees. Although this may not be uncommon as of late in a growing season, June is bloom. Reaching these high temperatures in June can cook our blossoms and ‘shatter’ our clusters. This means aborted flowers, which means reduced cluster sizes. The lower yield then had a strong launch for the remainder of the season. This allowed, on average, 2.9 Tons/acre on all our sites. Forget about the reduced crop for a second as this has everything to do with the quality of these wines. All our 2021 reds are gold medal status, 91+ points if you will. The concentration and complexity of these wines are truly jaw dropping.
Food Pairing Notes
Pairs best with a beautiful cut of red meat- Ribeye, Porterhouse, or, if you REALLY want to indulge... a shared Tomahawk with friends and a bottle of this wine is the ultimate!
