2021 Reserve Pinot Noir
Micro Lot Series

What is Reserve? For us, it is the ability to express the very finest of our vineyard’s limited production of clone 115, 26-year-old Pinot Noir vines. Several years ago, we noted this transition in soil type across this block and it was made known by the fruit intensity and vine characteristics of the upper region; the top 1/3rd of the rows that are nearest to the vertical volcanic black rock wall. The wine from that area is dusty in mineral character and the fruit more towards concentrated or stewed cherry. Classical burgundy notes of wet leaves, earth, or that barnyard character (this can mean different things to different people – think more horse stable or tidy hobby farm) make up the nose. It’s all wrapped up so well in providing great concentration and texture. The wine is medium bodied but oh-so-creamy. In our home, we enjoy this wine so much we never pair with it. Food is too distracting. Due to this unique area of vines, we can only produce about 120 cases of this gem a year. Truly embodying the spirit of our micro lot programs.
