This Syrah follows the ’20, which was awarded a coveted platinum medal at the National Wine Awards. This wine style was well received and our introduction of Viognier as a co-ferment is likely to assume some responsibility. The addition of this white grape tannin adds to the mid palate and damn near makes it perceive buttery – a character typically more reserved for Chardonnay – however, it hits the mark.

Aged in 90% French and 10% American oak barrels for 16 months, this wine is drinking really well now but is crafted with the structure to age for a decade. We really do encourage you to try one as soon as possible though.

Tasting Notes
"The ’21 follows an outstanding ’20, awarded a coveted platinum medal at the National Wine Awards, and this one could be even better. Adding 5 percent viognier skins to the ferment adds a charm rarely seen in Syrah as big as this. The aging is 90/10 in French and American oak barrels for 18 months. It is surprisingly friendly now, but it will age effortlessly into 2028. Like the Northern Rhone, the Syrah is grown on decaying Stemwinder soils, essentially stone, gravel, and windblown sand. Look for dusty pepper sagebrush notes among a perry meaty red that entices from front to back. This is impressive work here, although this fruit is under pressure from two cold winters. Buy it while you can." -Anthony Gismondi, Gismondi On Wine

Vineyard Notes
All of our 2021’s were literally "kissed" by the sun. A vintage expressing a lot of intensity. Two compounding reasons: First, we reached temperatures in early June of 44 degrees. Although this may not be uncommon as of late in a growing season, June is bloom. Reaching these high temperatures in June can cook our blossoms and ‘shatter’ our clusters. This means aborted flowers, which means reduced cluster sizes. The lower yield then had a strong launch for the remainder of the season. This allowed, on average, 2.9 Tons/acre on all our sites. Forget about the reduced crop for a second as this has everything to do with the quality of these wines. All our 2021 reds are gold medal status, 91+ points if you will. The concentration and complexity of these wines are truly jaw dropping.Corcelettes Estate Vineyard, Upper Bench, Keremeos “Stemwinder”- alluvial deposit & “Similkameen” gravelly sandy loam. Gnarly and extremely coarse soils eroded from steep mountain walls. Situated on the higher, south facing regions of the valley providing an extended growing season. Dry, windswept and extreme daytime heats. Exposed rock faces ‘sink’ and radiate heat well into the night. Vineyard rows are North/South orientation, VSP trellis system.
